Phone calls at the highest level, video conferencing, round trips of crisis, the climb to the top of the euro appears more frantic Sunday every hour that passes. Nicolas Sarkozy made last night on an emergency trip from Frankfurt to tighten rope with Angela Merkel. But in the final meters, it is the Italy of Silvio Berlusconi could give a cold sweat in the common currency.

Ten days after his trip to Berlin, Nicolas Sarkozy visited on Wednesday in the financial capital of Germany for a further meeting with Angela Merkel. Officially, he came to pay tribute to Jean-Claude Trichet, who drew his bow at the head of the ECB. But in practice, to lock an agreement soon with the Chancellor. After a two-hour meeting nothing has filtered. The two leaders were released separately without comment. They looked tense. They rushed into their cars, to use the plane to Paris and Berlin.

The key issue – the appropriate role or not the European Central Bank in the financing of sovereign debt in support of the EFSF, the bailout funds in the euro area – remains still pending. France is clearly, even amending the Treaties. Germany has always been against the name of financial orthodoxy and independence considered sacrosanct by the ECB.

The question plagues the Paris-Berlin for months. At one hundred hours of a summit that everyone wants to believe decisive, it is especially doubt the strength of the Franco-German base on which the 17 partners of the euro and the 27 EU countries have establish a bulwark Sunday against the crisis and contagion."Monday morning he will have the markets, the United States, China and the IMF are convinced that Europe has a plan, a European official placed loose in the heart of the discussion. If there is no agreement, each European country will be reduced to playing individual survival. "

A "Mr Euro"

As a result, dramatically raised the bar for Sunday. Until recent days, Europeans thought solve problems in sequence: first Greece, then the recapitalization of banks with the strengthening of EFSF and economic governance coupled with greater budgetary discipline and finally the start of construction new treaties to push European integration. In an emergency, they say in Brussels, the Heads of State and Government will instead have to treat the whole as a whole.

Essential parts are already in place.Athens will release in the coming days with an 8 billion euro. She will spend the deadlines in November and avoid bankruptcy catastrophic for the euro. Unless dramatic, France and Germany also agreed on the recapitalization of banks. Governance side, it seems certain that the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy become "Mr. Euro ". The terms of the collective fiscal discipline and above the level of checks carried out by teams in each capital Brussels are still under debate. The case directly related to the revision of treaties, also raises serious questions of national sovereignty.

But against the backdrop of persistent differences between France and Germany regarding the bailout fund and the role of the ECB, it remains to organize the famous "against fire" in the euro area, ie to prevent the spread of the fire."It's reassuring to calm the Greek home. But that does not answer the real question posed by the market: what happens if other countries are in turn earned by the flames? ", Said the European official.

After degradation of Spain by Moody's and uncertainty on France by Standard & Poor's is Italy, the third power of the euro might come to haunt the summit. "Nobody talks about it openly, but everyone has the scenario of an Italian debacle in mind," said one senior source. After public criticism that its inertia creates the Italian employers, Silvio Berlusconi could be claimed Sunday accountable by their peers, they say in Brussels.

On May 15 the "outraged" Spaniards camped in the square of Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Borrowing their name to the pamphlet by Stephen Hessel, they said they were inspired by the Arab Spring to shout their rebellion against the explosion of unemployment and austerity policies implemented by the government … Since then, the challenge has been extended in the rest of Europe but also overseas. Five months after the birth of the movement in Spain, in 82 countries is that these "outraged" will show this Saturday, October 15. Zurich to New York, to Rome, Tijuana, Hong Kong and Johannesburg, calls have been launched in 951 cities worldwide.

Their message to politicians and financial elites, as can be read on the site 15october, is: "The powers that be working for the benefit of some ignoring both the will of the majority that the price human and environmental we pay. This intolerable situation has to stop. "On the site of the movement Occupy Wall Street, the tone is the same:" The thing we all have in common is that we are the 99% who will not tolerate any longer the greed and the corruption of the remaining 1%. "In Italy, the program is summarized as follows: "Occupation of public places by millions of people who do not want to pay the enormous economic and social crisis in the place of those who have caused: political power industrial, economic and financial" .

No central authority

This day of action is to cross an important milestone in the movement, which now acquires an international dimension. "It was needed to make weight against the power of financial markets that operate on a global scale," says Sophie Banasiak, "indignant" Paris.

However, there is no central body to coordinate the different actions. "If the collective Democracia Real Ya played a leading role in the initial mobilization in Spain, he does not prevail, either in the capital of the country or world, Heloise said Nez, a sociologist at the University Paris 13.Many groups are working together, but none have hegemony over the movement horizontal and egalitarian aims. There is no visible head and outraged caregivers to regularly change the voice. "

"If someone asks you 'who is behind it', they reply: 'I'" retorted on those who seek the organizers. The spread of a city or country to another must be spontaneous, for emulation. A process greatly facilitated by social networks, where multiple keywords are emerging, such as "yeswecamp", "# yosoy15O", "# event15oct" or "# Globalrevolution" … "I do not even know exactly who launched the idea of the October 15, recognizes Spyros, OccupyLSX supporter of the movement in London. We have seen that call for Saturday and it was inspired by the movement Occupy wall street to do the same thing here. "

Specific demands of each country

If dissatisfied with the world found common denominators, claims and complaints are divided again according to national issues. In Spain, Real Democracia Ya accent has been on the reform of the electoral law to end the two-party system as well as stopping the evictions of indebted owners. In Anglo-Saxon countries, it is mainly finance, pointed as responsible for the crisis, which is targeted. Witness the names of the movements that develop, "Occupy Wall Street" and "Occupy London Stock Exchange (OccupyLSX)." In Israel, the mobilization is the expensive housing while in Italy, the outraged refuse to pay "a debt they have incurred."But all these central issues do not prevent each protester to express other concerns. In Spain some point impunity surrounding crimes of Francoism and the United States is denounced police brutality or the death penalty …

Above all, each city retains its autonomy: information flows globally, but "decisions, they, are taken at meetings in every city, Banasiak said Sophie. Each city chooses its own way of decision. In Paris and Madrid for example, is the consensus. The international dimension does not change the fact that the essence of the movement is local: it is in the physical encounter and dialogue in the streets. "

For his arrival in France, Banana Republic offers a prime location: the Champs-Elysees. At the bottom of the avenue, sunny side, work has just begun. The Gap Group, owner of the sign, hoping his inauguration in early December naviral Admiral Paris, next to the shop and in front of the Adidas Abercrombie & Fitch.

"After the success of our new stores in London and Milan, we found the right time and the right location for us to launch in Paris," says Sonia Syngal, who oversees Gap's European operations. On two floors and 1,500 square meters, the brand of "affordable luxury" – as this group – will present its Ready-to-wear for men and women in chic and classic style, at prices close to those of Sandro and Maje , signs in French of the moment. In the mid-dresses (from 85 euros) and trench coats (from 189 euros), guests will find the same accessories and care products.

With a multilingual concierge and personal stylists, "This store has the ambition to become a major destination for Parisians and visitors from France and abroad," says Stephen Sunnucks, President of Gap International Group.

Born in 1978 in the United States, five years later bought by Gap, Banana Republic is still little known on this side of the Atlantic. Since October 2010, the French and the inhabitants of 24 European countries can also purchase the pants and shirts of the brand on the Internet. But the first European Banana Republic store was opened in early 2008 in London, in the shopping of Regent Street.Five other outlets have been opened since Britain, and other launches are planned this year and in 2012. Banana Republic has also planted a flag second in Italy last November. The store in Milan is a great success by group, who does not wish to provide figures. He expects the same home in Paris, but it is "too to think about other openings in France," said Sonia Syngal, which has not yet finalized the launch of marketing operations.

Seven new countries by the end of the year

Struggling in its home market for years, Gap, which also owns brands Old Navy, Piperlime and Athleta, setting internationally to find a second wind. Only 20% of $ 14.7 billion in sales in the group of clothing last year came from abroad.By the end of 2013, this share should be increased to 30%, counting both the activity of physical networks Gap and Banana Republic and that of its other subsidiaries on the Internet.

In late June, the group had shops in 34 countries and could be delivered in 114 countries. "We enter seven new countries by the end of the year, the highest number for a single semester ever," said Glenn Murphy, CEO of Gap, in the presentation of interim results .

Fifty-two euros to pay for a Paris-Bordeaux, 10.30 euros for connecting Lyon to Chambery, 87 km. At the time of taking the road to return from holiday, motorists have difficulty digesting the prices of French motorways. They do not understand either why the toll rates rose by an average of 2.24% in February last, while inflation rose only 1.5% in 2010.

These prices are even more crowded than the major networks (ASF, Escota, Cofiroute, APRR, Area, Sanef, AWS …) belonging to the majors in construction (Vinci, Eiffage, Abertis), making profits accumulated very comfortable : 1.5 billion euros, for a total turnover of 9 billion last year.Jean Mesqui, the managing director of ASFA (Association of French Motorway Companies), categorically denies any suspicion of wealth on the backs of motorists, "These results are used primarily to repay the debt incurred by the operators 2005 to redeem these networks to the state 15.4 billion, "says he.

No doubt. But the disparities in prices recorded on motorways for journeys have a way similar to annoy motorists. According to the latest issue of 60 million consumers, a trip from Paris to Nantes so expensive (more than 33 euros) a Paris-Toulouse, 300 km with less. Again, Jean Mesqui disclaims any liability for motorway concession. "These disparities existed in the privatization in 2005, he argues. The state says he does everything for convergence rates. But it will take twenty years. "

Another black tariffs on recent highway. On the A65, which links Bordeaux to Pau, which opened in December 2010, the kilometer is equivalent to 11 cents, against 7 cents on the A1 between Paris and Lille payday loans. Inflation this time due to … Europe. Since 1998, Brussels forbids dealers to finance new highways by their former networks already amortized. So they compensate by setting toll rates higher.

There is still a sore subject: the "expansion", a practice that is to massively increase tolls on the busiest sections and moderate increases on routes less traveled. Starting this year, the administration banned dealers to engage in that game"But she did not return what had been established earlier, said Daniel Discalced, Chairman of the Committee infrastructure and mobility of the association of 40 million motorists. Suddenly, a Paris-Le Mans motorway is much more expensive if we make the journey directly if you come out several times to enter the highway a few miles away. "

The toll is sometimes used to 'green' network

Moreover, the commitments of the "green package" to make more environmentally friendly highways, leaving a more skeptical. For a one-year extension of their concessions, companies that belong to Vinci (ASF, Cofiroute, Escota) and those of Abertis (Sanef, AWS) have agreed to invest one billion to green their networks. But on closer inspection, two thirds of the work initiated in this context concern the implementation of electronic toll.

Barriers that prevent good to stop reducing pollution, but they also allow operators to cut jobs to tolls and sell badges needed to benefit from these facilities. This example confirms that the motorway companies are there to make money. But is it really a surprise and a bad thing for private groups?

The fall of 6.9% of GDP in the second quarter is not for nothing. While the empty streets of Athens with the approach of August 15, the Greeks are reluctant to take a vacation. According to a survey by the Consumers' Association, six out of ten Greeks will not go this year because of the crisis. Specifically, "46% do not go a week, and only 5% will go over two days," Gianna Karatyni analysis of the Consumers' Association. "Morale is not, but the wallet either. Now the Greeks think twice before leaving, especially when the price of ferry tickets, for example to go to Crete for a family of four with a car, is 600 euros, one quarter of household earnings. A luxury, "she says.

Yet the absence of the Greeks is not visible on the beaches of the islands of the Aegean Sea. And for good reason, this summer, tourists from around the world flock by the thousands.Travel agencies estimate that 20% increase in bookings compared to 2010. "The French are fighting the same record," adds Theodore Chartomatsidis, director of the Hellenic Tourism Office in Paris: "Applications abound every day with our services. The numbers prove it. There is, for now, an increase of at least 28% of French tourists in Greece this year, "says he. "That means they could exceed one million visitors, a figure that was the goal for three years. It is therefore encouraging because with few means of promotion, we have shown that there is another Greek than the economic crisis, like the food for example No teletrak payday loan. The French responded immediately, in solidarity, above all, "he adds.

A safer country as Tunisia and Egypt

In the port of Piraeus, boats, coming and going in the islands of the Aegean Sea, are met.Karine, a French tourist, who came with family, preparing to embark for the island of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese. Impressed by the number of travelers, she concluded that ultimately the economy will be beneficial to Greece: "I think people, especially the French, were frightened by the situation in Tunisia or Egypt. Greece remains a safe country, to which is attached without really knowing him. The holidays are enjoyable, even if sometimes small strikes, "said she. Like many tourists, Karine does not hide his desire to acquire a small house overlooking the sea "if prices fall with the crisis," she says. The property prices have not fallen but never mind, for some tourists, there is an incentive to come back next year.

The Greeks do not let themselves down so far. Some invade the beaches near the capital, while others go for short-haul and less expensive way, almost 30% of Greeks went beyond their prejudices to enjoy the beaches and rates of neighboring Albania.

The outlook for the parent company of Airbus are rather positive. EADS confirmed on Friday its forecast for the full year 2011, with sales up 8% to 21.9 billion euros and operating profit (EBIT) of 720 million euros in first half of this year. The net result of EADS amounted to 109 million euros (compared to 185 million euros in the first half of 2010), or earnings per share of 0.13 euro (0.23 euro a year ago) . In the second quarter, the manufacturer posted a net profit of 121 million euros and a turnover of 12.082 million – up from data over the same period the previous year (82 million euros in profit net 11.35 billion in revenue).

The activities of EADS, however, impacted by a decline of 41% of net profit in the first half, to 109 million euros related to accounting revaluations following the change in exchange rates, the statement said the group. But the net cash position of the manufacturer, specialized in aerospace and defense of a $ 11 billion still provides a solid foundation to meet the operational needs of the group and fuel future growth, "said EADS Friday .

An exceptional increase in orders

"Our first half results in 2011 reflect the strong demand in the commercial aviation sector," said the executive chairman of the Louis Welsh, comment out the publication of the results of EADS.At Le Bourget, Airbus, the main subsidiary of EADS has reached a new record this year, orders for 730 commercial aircraft, including 667 A 320 Neo, remotorisée version of medium-haul Airbus, less fond of fuel. EADS believes that Airbus should undertake the delivery of 520 to 530 commercial aircraft throughout the year, with a level of gross orders up to one thousand units. In the first half of 2011, new orders for Airbus amounted to 58.1 billion euros at the end of June the company has already earned 453.8 billion euros (at the end of 2010, total orders was 448.5 billion).

For all of 2011, EADS expects a stable EBIT before non-recurring items in 2011 compared to 2010, about 1.3 billion euros. Louis Welsh stated in particular that Airbus confirms its target of delivering about 25 to 380 in 2011.Moreover, based on the basis of an exchange rate of one euro worth 1.35 dollars, the European manufacturer hopes to earnings per share higher than in 2010, which was 0.68 euro. He also put on a significant improvement in its EBIT by 2012 due to higher sales volumes and improved performance of the Airbus A 380.

The title of EADS was in line with the trend of the CAC 40 stock market this morning, down -0.76% to 24.15 euros.

Greece will operate at idle on Tuesday, the first day of a general strike of 48 hours. A movement to challenge the new austerity plan which must be passed by parliament before June 30 The unions and the opposition rejected the new tax increases and the waves of mass privatization included in this new plan.

And the movement promises to be monitored. As for transportation, airlines warned that Greek flights will be canceled and Athens, most buses, trolleys, interurban trains and trams will remain in port. Governments are also concerned. In hospitals, only emergencies will be provided, power cuts will be random and banks remain closed. The journalists will stop work for several hours. The outrage, the popular resistance movement apolitical, gathered on Parliament Square.

But despite popular discontent, the government maintains its plan, the adoption of conditions the release of a new tranche of loans from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. Become indispensable aid to Greece to avoid a default. Prime Minister George Papandreou has even called yesterday to the "patriotic duty" of MPs urging them to vote in favor of the proposed budget for fiscal consolidation in the country. And voting will take place tomorrow and Thursday, promises to be particularly tight: the opposition and vote against certain member of the majority – that is up to five votes say they also opposed. If rejected, the Europeans have built up a "plan B", according to Reuters. It would be a plan in case of default anticontagion Greek, distinct from the French proposal, based it on a private sector participation.
