The Societe generale de financement du Quebec has acquired a 4.5% stake in the video game publisher Ubisoft for an estimated $ 40 million. "The studio was in Montreal is a globally recognized center of excellence including the creation of game concepts of the most innovative and coveted for the expertise of its employees" justified the CEO of SGF Raymond Bachand said in a statement .

Money does not buy happiness, it is often said. Gallup conducted a global study whose results appear to confirm the adage. According to the study, published in the American Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, whose findings were released by the Christian Science Monitor, the U.S. is perhaps the richest country in the world, but they are far from be the happiest.

The global study was conducted among 136,000 people in 132 countries between 2005 and 2006. His basic premise: there are two definitions of happiness. On the one hand, happiness linked to a sense of well-being. On the other, that which is derived from specific moments of joy.If the first definition depends largely on personal income and wealth of the state in which one lives, the second responds rather to how psychological and social needs of all are met, the researchers said Gallup.

Yet with the highest GDP per capita in the world (46,400 dollars per capita, according to the CIA), the U.S. can only 16th in the ranking prepared by Gallup in regard to the general welfare, and only in 26th position out of 132 in terms of moments of satisfaction. The Americans were upstaged by the Danes, who are happiest with a general point of view, and by New Zealanders, who are champions of the moments of joy. Far from the United States, Denmark is the 31st worldwide in terms of GDP per capita ($ 36,000 in 2009) and New Zealand 51st (to 27,300 dollars), according to CIA data.

The importance of social relationships

"While enriched with a sense of general satisfaction on his life, it is perhaps not as big an impact than we imagine how we appreciate each moment," says Ed Diener, a researcher at the University of Illinois and in Gallup. The researcher stresses the importance of "quality of social relations" in the lives of everyone. He cites, for example, Costa Rica, despite income levels below those of South Korea, would have a population happier.

One issue that has also gained ground in France. To determine the limits of GDP as an indicator of social progress, President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008 mandated a committee chaired by Professor Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel Prize in economics. Its report, delivered in late 2009, believes that there is often "a gap between declared, first, the usual measures of major socio-economic variables such as growth, inflation, unemployment, etc.., And, Moreover, widespread perceptions of these realities. " The Committee also questioned "the relevance of these data as a tool to measure societal well-being."

The adage has limits

For example, northern Europe and Anglo-Saxon beautiful lie on top of the global economic scale, these areas have nothing to envy of Latin America, which is relatively well positioned in the rankings of Gallup . This reasoning, however, limits. "Many if not most people want and run after money for most of their days, in fact, admit the authors of the study.Unsurprisingly, the countries of Africa's poorest arrive back of the pack, and this, in the two rankings of happiness!

Nearly a thousand investors will be meeting Tuesday night at the Convention Centre in Strasbourg, for the annual meeting of the Afer. And the board of directors of the most popular savings association in France will work hard to answer their questions. For many subscribers have questioned the compensation they can expect after the conviction for abuse of confidence by the Court of Cassation, the founders of the Afer Gérard Athias and Andre Le Saux. The meeting will Does the opportunity to come out on top and turn the page so nicely That is the question facing those who have trusted to rightly Afer to invest their savings, but are tired of business and financial disputes that threaten the life of the association for years.

In the first letter in mid-May, Gerard Bekerman, the president of the Afer, had laid the groundwork. The association would make every effort to try to help savers to recover 92 million that the court had decided to confiscate the former leaders. But to get more (the total damage is estimated at 250 million euros), investors should only engage the battle in court. Collective actions are not allowed in France, considers Afer being unable to lead the fight to them.

Mediation proposed

But a few days ago, in another letter, the president went further Bekerman. It offers a mediation "under the responsibility of an independent and indisputable," which "could lead to a financial proposal" probably by the end of the year. The association will stop there. Each member will have to act individually whether to be better compensated.

These proposals indignant SOS principles Afer. The latter, led by Francis Nocaudie, would love to take Afer leading the fight shoulder and at least the action of members no fax payday loans. It invites Afer to turn against the insurer of the contract, Aviva believes it civilly liable for the actions of former executives of the association, and more solvent than Gerard Andre Le Saux or Mathias. SOS Principles Afer the opportunity to mention the loss of independence of the association vis-à-vis the insurer. In recent weeks, the tone is mounted between Francis Nocaudie and current leaders Afer. The first, after asking the court to postpone the general meeting, expected to require the cancellation. Motive? The poor presentation of the resolutions announced by his association, while those of Afer were well developed. And most importantly, the difficulty for members to give him authority to vote on their behalf. "If the power is valid, it was necessary to mention the zip code of my home, that few members know," he says.

Still in question, the insurer Aviva remains silent. Even if, for the debates which agitate Afer today, a lawyer for life insurance, Mr. Lecoq Vallon not hesitate to resurface an old case appropriately. It is indeed in conflict about a company's old contract, which permitted to invest in stocks during the previous week. An investment to "known price" that proved a boon for investors, and difficult for the insurer. "Many court decisions have sided with the investors who had signed the contract and can not benefit," explains Mr. Nicolas Lecoq Vallon. He estimated that 34 million euros provisioned by Aviva to address disputes are insufficient given the amounts involved in that case.

After a slow start, the Solidarity labor income (RSA) is it taking off for good? Quasi steady in March (+0.1%), the number of beneficiaries has increased again in April to 1.777 million homes recipients, an increase of 1.06% over the month. Now, 1,149,000 households enjoy the "RSA base" (0.5%), the equivalent of ex-RMI and single parent allowance (IPY). And above all, 627,271 receive the "RSA activity" in addition to their earnings. Either a "strong increase" to the "RSA activity" (+2.7% in April, 14,270 additional beneficiaries), which currently affects over 1.3 million people in total.

In March, the caseload had dropped by 12,000, a first since its inception in June 2009.In eleven months, the number of beneficiaries of the "RSA activity" has increased by 51.5% although it remains far from the goal originally posted by Martin Hirsch third of the "target population" in benefits really now, against 90% target by the "father" of RSA.

Same trend in May

Question cost, RSA will cost 649millions euros in April to the community (543millions for "RSA base" and 106millions for "RSA activity") and more than 6.62 billion since its inception, including 15% for "RSA activity, funded by a 1.1% tax on capital income.

The rise of "RSA activity" is "a sign of an upturn in activity or the beginning of the crisis, hopefully it to the government. People are starting to take odd jobs: the very low-paid full-time or part-time.This trend would be "confirmed or accentuated a bit" according préchiffres May.

For the current Minister for Active Solidarity – which has never believed in original intent of scalability of the "RSA activity" – there are two other explanations. "Many people have been slow to apply for RSA business because they did not know they were entitled, because they would not feel stigmatized because it was complicated," says Marc-Philippe Daubresse that present in early July a plan to simplify the RSA. The departments have also been slow to organize the information flow and are currently optimizing their practices. "

The credit rating of BP continues to tumble with the rating agencies. Moody's downgraded the rating on Friday, the oil company three notches, from A2 to Aa2, "to reflect the worsening of the expected impact of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico."

The agency explains reflect the strong upward revision of the volume of oil spills every day in the Gulf of Mexico, the persistent failure to seal the well and the staggering costs associated with damage from the disaster."The oil spill will have a lasting negative impact on cash flow generation of the company and its financial position for a number of years," the agency said in a note.

Moody's believes that the creation of a fund by BP of estimates of 20 billion dollars to compensate victims of the disaster is "a moderately positive development": the pressure of U.S. government could indeed become more flexible but the substance is in no If an expenditure ceiling of BP.

The agency states that all notes of the group remains under surveillance.

The three rating agencies have become so degraded the note of the oil company is the largest British company listed on the London Stock Exchange.Last week, Fitch downgraded BP six notches, to BBB (cons AA), Thursday, Standard & Poor's downgraded two notches, from A to AA-.

Nevertheless, BP wins the title at 2.45% 368.50 pence shortly before 15:30 at the London Stock Exchange. In New York, where the group is also listed, the share was up 3.12% to 32.70 dollars.

"We are resigned to the fact that there may be a suspension of the dividend," said Tony Shepard, an analyst at Charles Stanley, quoted by Reuters. After many setbacks experienced by BP for almost two months and the explosion of the drilling platform, the oil group could suspend payment of its dividend this year. Anticipating that caused a fall of 4.24% to 391.55 pence on BP's share price at the close of the London Stock Exchange, while the British FTSE gained 1.15%.

On Friday, BP has reaffirmed its intention to announce to its shareholders on July 27 the amount of its interim dividend by way of the second quarter.Dividends paid by the group representing some 10.5 billion dollars (8.7 billion euros) per year.

Yet another bad news for the oil group that is not due to his inability to pay, but the fact that the U.S. authorities there are not favorable. "It does me no problem that BP complies with its legal obligations (to its shareholders, Ed), but I want them to know they have a moral and legal obligations here in the Gulf, warned Tuesday Barack Obama.

The U.S. authorities have also sent an ultimatum to compel them to BP by unveiling its plans to 72 hours to stop the leak.

"BP must state its plans for its parallel initiatives ongoing and alternative oil recovery, including establishing a timetable within 72 hours after receipt of this letter," says the letter from the admiral-cons Coastguard James Watson chief operating officer of BP, Doug Suttles, and dated Tuesday.

With the installation of a funnel, BP has accelerated since last week the recovery of oil leaking from the wells to 1,500 meters below the surface of the water for more than seven weeks. But the water continues to move towards the U.S. coast and crude oil continues to flow.

In an essay published last April 15 to Eyrolles, Mary Visot, editor in charge of the government's economic policy at the Figaro, in an educational analysis of the upheavals caused by the economic crisis on the relationship between state and business.

Putting into perspective the level of government intervention resulting from the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the ensuing crisis, the author recalls that during the French economic history, it is "what happened who chaired the degree of state intervention in the economic sphere, rather than the color of government policy in place. " From the planning of post-war to regain control of capitalism in 1981, periods during which the state has invested heavily in the economy are not unusual, said Mary Visot.

Still, the public interventions in 2008 and 2009, have influenced, the circumstances require, the balance of power between the state and enterprises. The bank rescue, aid to the automobile sector, have included more control over legitimate businesses, including the convening of Carlos Ghosn at the Elysee Palace on the production of the Clio in Turkey is an example.

In recent years, the owners have too often been a drift of their trustee fees (see also the investigation of abusive practices on an individual trustees). They tended to vote in general meeting a basic package at attractive rates, but charge extra for many tasks that should have been part of their standard delivery. In an attempt to end these abuses, the National Consumer Council (NCC) was made in September 2007, a notice setting out, in consultation with the condominium associations and professionals, a list of 44 tasks to be included in the basic package.

From our correspondent in Berlin

This was over a year that Angela Merkel had banks in the crosshairs. Embittered by the irresponsible behavior and the "greed" of some institutions, the Chancellor had promised to pay the banks their share of responsibility in the financial crisis that has hit Germany hard. Monday, his government announced the creation of a special fund financed by a tax on banks to help stabilize the industry crisis.

"A levy bearable by the banks is expected to finance the costs of future crises. The samples will go into a fund that will finance the costs of restructuring in a crisis, "said the spokesman of the Ministry of Finance, Michael Offer.Berlin was said to want to establish a fund to ensure "the dismantling or the stabilization of banks in crisis, involving the financial sector so that the taxpayer has to pay much more in case of banking crisis.

Berlin has not released details of the fund, which should amount to several billion euros, according to German media. Neither the levies. The Finance Minister Wolfgang Sch?uble said that it should consider the role and weight of a bank in the economy. "It is important that the ability of banks to lend is not hampered by this levy," said Michael Offer, while "the danger of a credit crunch still exists. The bill would make a difference between banks deemed "serious" as the savings banks – Sparkassen – and the institutions that generate significant profits through speculation, which will be most heavily taxed guaranteed fast personal loans! !???!!!???!!!.

IMF proposal

The decision came after a meeting between leaders of the three main parties in the ruling coalition at the Chancellery, which could well see a rare show of unity. "We all agree that those responsible for the crisis also pay the consequences," said Vice-Chancellor and leader of the Liberal Party (FDP), Guido Westerwelle. We can not all be done on the backs of taxpayers. "The bill should be debated and adopted at a special Council of Ministers, March 31, in the presence of the French Finance Minister, Christine Lagarde.

Berlin hopes to run at full speed during the Franco-German push for a European initiative along the same lines and get a "strong international coordination" in regulating the banking sector. An international conference on financial regulation is expected in Berlin May 27

With the crisis, many countries want to overtax the banks, including the United States and Great Britain. The U.S. administration is considering two samples: one for the Treasury to repay the funds provided to the financial sector during the 2008-2009 crisis, the other to pay for future banking crises, without using taxpayers' money.Very controversial in the United States, the tax favored by the EU and IMF, which should make proposals to that effect in April.

Meeting this week in Cannes to show the real estate professionals around the world were rather optimistic, anticipating economic recovery, after having faced the most serious crisis the industry since the mid 90s.

The total investment in real estate business in 56 major countries is expected to jump 30% to 478 billion dollars (362 billion euros) this year compared to 2009, low point of the crisis, after a dive 23% in one year, according to a study by Cushman & Wakefield Council. Including a forecast bolstered by the outcome of the Director General of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who said Wednesday that global economic recovery was "better than expected, with 4% projected growth this year after a recession in 2009.

But "if the economies of Europe, Middle East and Africa emerging from recession, economic recovery will not be uniform in these regions, warns a study by Jones Lang LaSalle board. However, with the hope of restarting the economy, coupled with the attitude of banks willing to finance new projects demonstrating good profitability, the construction sector seems to go back online payday advance !!!???!! !???!!!.

A tower of 37 floors of Defense

The French bank Societe Generale has thus acquired the rights to build a tower of 180 meters and 37 floors in La Defense, the largest European business district, located in the northwestern suburbs of Paris."This is a strong indicator of release of the housing crisis", said to AFP Philippe Chaix, Director General of EPAD, public planning of Defense.

The same optimism prevails as well in Montreal, on the North American continent, to Barcelona in Spain, yet one of the countries most affected by the crisis although it was most struck residential property.

The 21st International Market Professionals Real Estate (MIPIM) in Cannes hosted 18,000 participants (exhibitors and visitors), from 78 countries, the same number as in 2009 but down 36% compared to 2008, according Nadine Castagna, Director of MIPIM. To confirm whether the recovery is quite the appointment in 2010, professionals will meet from November 10 to 12 at MIPIM Asia in Hong Kong.
